What Hazards and Risks Are Your Employees Exposed To?

One of the first things that you can do to help keep your jobsite safe is to begin identifying hazards. A hazard is a condition, an activity, or a set of circumstances that could cause illness, physical harm, or injury to one of your workers.

 

 

Think about how quickly the costs of a workplace accident can add up—lost wages, workers compensation, low employee morale, decrease in productivity, and workforce shortages are just some of the results of a series workplace injury or fatality.

If you're concerned about the safety of your employees, we've created two tools you can use to self-assess how they perform their jobs safely:

Job Safety Analysis (JSA)

The Job Safety Analysis form will walk you through the process of identifying the types of jobs or activities that you or your co-workers perform that could be considered higher risk. This form will help you identify, control, and eliminate hazards related to:

• Jobs with the highest injury rates
• Jobs with the potential to cause the most severe or disabling injuries
• Jobs in which one simple human error could lead to a severe accident or injury
• Jobs that are new to your operation or have undergone changes in process and procedure
• Jobs complex enough to require written work instructions

Working at Height Risk Assessment (WHRA)

In the same way the JSA form helps you identify hazards around your jobsite, the Working at Height Risk Assessment form focuses specifically on the worker at height. The WHRA will help you identify how your workers at height perform their job now and how they may need to perform it in the future, by focusing on the following items:

• Height considerations
• Hazard considerations and controls
• Emergency protocols and rescue plans
